    The Research Process

Before you begin searching for information, you should thoroughly understand the topic you are researching.

General science dictionaries, subject dictionaries and encyclopaedias are a good place to begin.

Dictionaries provide definitions of unfamiliar terms, while encyclopaedias give explanations and succinct overviews of topics.

Once you've decided on the type of information you need, you may look for it in books, theses and journals (in print-form).

You may expand your search to electronic articles, where the information you need will be found mostly in databases.

For more "obscure" electronic information you may need to search internet Web resources

When you’ve gathered all the information you need, it may be time to write and reference your work.

Please don't hesitate to ask a librarian should you need further assistance with your information search.
