To access the Libraries' electronic resources from home, or from anywhere off campus, you need to log in via the proxy server, EZProxy.
What is EZProxy?
At UCT, EZProxy is a service that provides authenticated off-campus access to selected web content for staff and registered students of the University of Cape Town. It is a reverse proxy system that enables UCT Libraries' users to access databases, e-journals, and other electronic resources from home, or anywhere in the world.
How to use EZProxy:
Once you have logged in, you will see the University of Cape Town reverse proxy screen.
Selecting the UCT Libraries link will take you to the Libraries Home Page. Once there, you will notice that the Libraries’ URL in the address bar at the top of the page has changed to: http://www.lib.uct.ac.za.ezproxy.uct.ac.za/ This indicates that you are now accessing the Libraries' site via the proxy server. (If you do not see “ezproxy” in the URL, click the Back button in your browser until "ezproxy" reappears, and begin navigating again from there.)
EZProxy is supported by ICTS, so if you experience problems with this facility, contact the ICTS Help Desk at email@example.com or phone 021 650-4500.
