Postgraduate Research in the Health Sciences Library Guide

Library guide for postgraduate students and researchers.

Print journals

The library has an extensive collection of print journals but in recent years many titles have been replaced by the online version only. Journals published from 1990 are housed on levels 3 and 5 of the Health Sciences Library. Earlier years are kept in the basement which is a closed access area and items need to be requested from here. You may also request that journals be sent from the Main Library or other branches of UCT Libraries. For holdings of our journals, choose the 'Journal Search' option in our library search interface, Primo.

E-Journals

The library has an extensive list of journals to which we have full-text online access. Access to these e-journals is available through our library portal, Primowhich you will find on the library's home page. Remember to sign into Primo in order to access full text.

How to find journal titles on Primo

Taylor & Francis journals

If you experience problems accessing the journals in this database using the off-campus login, please follow these instructions:

  • Use the Log in link on the Taylor & Francis webpage, select Shibboleth, locate UCT  in the list of institutions, and login with your UCT staff/student number and network password.
  • If you access the Taylor & Francis journals by locating the journal of choice in Primo, it automatically finds your institution on their website.

Can't find the journal you are looking for?

If UCT Libraries do not hold the journal that you are looking for or do not offer online access to it, you may request an article through the Interlibrary Loans System. Requests for interlibrary loans may be done online. For more information about interlibrary loans contact
