Referencing is the process of acknowledging your sources when writing an essay or assignment.
You must acknowledge your sources by citing them in the text of your assignment (called in-text citations) and referencing them at the end of your assignment (called a reference list).
You must provide references whenever you quote (use the exact words), paraphrase (use the ideas of another person, in your own words) or summarize (use the main points of) another’s opinions, theories or data.
There are various styles of referencing. You are required to follow the APA Referencing Style (7th ed.), the style of the American Psychological Association.
