Researching South African Law Library Guide: Current Awareness

This guide is intended to assist you in researching South African law.

Current Awareness products

Current Awareness products help legal staff to stay up to date with the latest developments in legal news, including cases and legislation.

Some products are available to view online, while others send you a current awareness newsletter (usually in the form of an email)

UCT subscribes to a number of current awareness products that will keep you up to date!

LexisNexis

LexisNexis's Current Awareness is in email form and gets sent to your email directly. It has 4 editions - Act Monitor, Case Watch, Stop Press and Final Edition.

To subscribe to LexisNexis current awareness - log onto LexisNexis. If a grey registration screen asking for details shows - this is where you sign up. Fill in your name and surname, as well as your email address and click 'register'.

Otherwise - go onto LexisNexis and in the Table of Contents on the left, click on 'Current Awareness'. In the main screen on left it will allow you to change your preference to receive the product.

Juta: Legalbrief

LegalBrief is available both in email and online. There are 5 different products: Legalbrief Today, Legalbrief Forensic, Legalbrief Cyberlaw, Legalbrief Environment and Legalbrief Africa.

To sign up for Legalbrief via email, contact the Law Library.

It is still possible to view the newsletters online by accessing the Legalbrief site through the 'Databases A-Z' list on the library's homepage. Once you have opened Legalbrief, click 'home' and then click on the icon of the newsletter you wish to view.
