NISH (NITAG Support Hub) 9: MMR Vaccine with a Specific Focus on Mumps: Home

Introduction

This Library Guide (LibGuide) is a collection of useful documents & evidence on the MMR (Measles-Mumps-Rubella) vaccine with a specific focus on mumps. The LibGuide supports NITAG members and other policy makers in Africa with making evidence-based recommendations on incorporation of mumps containing vaccines into EPI.

Live mumps vaccines are available as monovalent (mumps only), bivalent measles-mumps (MM), trivalent measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccines, or quadrivalent measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccines.

Mumps is a contagious disease caused by the mumps virus.

You can get mumps and spread the virus by:

  • Coughing, sneezing, or talking.
  • Sharing items that may have saliva on them, such as water bottles or cups.
  • Participating in close-contact activities with others, like playing sports, dancing, or kissing.
